Michael Goheen is a native Texan who grew up in Ft. Worth. Michael has been around horses all his life and worked on numerous Texas ranches as well as in Montana. He has studied under legendary horseman Ray Hunt and continues to learn from horsemen like Buck Brannaman, Joe Wolter, Lee Smith and Buster McLaury. He has worked long and hard and put in his time over the years to develop his own unique training style. His passion for horses is apparent when he is working a horse. Whether he is starting a young colt or correcting a problem in a horse, his methods are gentle with a great respect for each individual horse. If you would like to talk with Michael about your goals for your horse, you can call South Paw Ranch at 214-707-4187. Michael will work with you on a schedule that meets your needs.
Patti, I just wanted to let you and Michael know Bella is doing great. We have been camping and riding every weekend since she came home and all our friends are amazed and some are not sure she is the same horse. ~ Brandy R.
South Paw Ranch is a little known gem of a training ranch in North Texas, where it is all about the horse. I have ridden many times with Michael Goheen in his clinics, observed him working with colts and troubled horses with special training needs, and teaching people of various riding backgrounds how to get along better with their horses. He is passionate about horses and creating a better relationship between them and their humans. South Paw Ranch promotes natural horsemanship in the tradition of the great Ray Hunt, whom Michael had the fortune to meet and train with. Patti and Michael have been friends and mentors to me, and I invite anyone who wants to learn and have fun doing it to pay them a visit. ~ Amy
"I wanted you to know I could not be happier with Coup. Riding him is such a pleasure. I realize I have a lot to learn and now look forward to it. I gave you a horse I was almost ready to sell and you gave me back a reason to enjoy my passion. I can't thank you enough!" ~ Christy & Coup
The colt starting clinic today was wonderful. I went home and worked with my “yearling with an attitude” and she did really well. It’s me that needs to work on my coordination skills! Of course she’s too young for all of today’s lessons but some apply, and I feel inspired to walk my adult horses through the process just to see where we need to work. Michael was great – entertaining and informative. ~ Jamie C.
Michael is very insightful and very observant of both the horse's and the rider's needs. Those two qualities along with his diverse experience and knowledge of horses makes for a great trainer! I should also mention he is very good at confidence building and always encourages you along the way. He even keeps the training light hearted with his humor. I look forward to learning as much as I can from this guy! ~ Rick K.
